Aalto Science Institute - Helsinki

  • PAY €2000+ per month depending on years of study

    • €400/800 travel bonus for travel to the institute from inside/outside Europe

    • Assistance finding low-cost student housing

    DURATION June-August (12 weeks – flexible depending on the research group)

    • 1 week paid vacation

    • Employed as a full-time research assistant

    Requirements:

EPFL School of Life Sciences - Lausanne

  • PAY 3,600 CHF for the 2-month period

    • Housing is reserved and paid for out of the stipends beforehand by EPFL

    • The program reimburses up to CHF 1,000 for overseas flights and CHF 500 for shorter distances

    DURATION early-July to the end of August (8 weeks)

    • Access to scientific seminars, science related & personal development workshops, and closing symposium with poster session or presentations from all participants

    APPLICATION includes choosing from a list of participating labs and explaining your choices

    • Previous lab experience is a plus

    Requirements:

    • Must be currently enrolled in a university in a life science related program (Neuroscience counts as a life science)

    • Must have a minimum of GPA equivalent to 3.75/4.0 grade or higher, or top 5% of their class

    • Must have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate work up to the first year of a MSc before the start of the program (second years and beyond are eligible)

 
 

Institute of Molecular Biology - Mainz

  • PAY no pay, need to find pay via an independent source

    • Since we don’t have an internship mandated by our degree, we fall into the category of voluntary internships

    DURATION:

    1. if you have your own funding/studentship, duration according to the fellowship you’ve been granted

    2. if you don’t have your own funding: maximum 3 months

    APPLICATION includes choosing up to 5 labs from a list of participating IMB labs

    • Previous lab experience is a plus

    DEADLINE can apply anytime throughout the year but must be submitted at least 4-5 months before the ideal start of the internship

     

    Requirements:

    • Must be currently enrolled in a university in a life science related program  for a minimum of 3 years (Neuroscience counts as a life science)

    • If you have already graduated, you can apply up to 3 months after the end of your studies

 
 

ISTA - Vienna

  • PAY €1,150 per month for a period of up to 3 months

    • Travel allowance to cover the costs of round-trip transport to ISTA

    • Access to subsidised accommodation on campus

    DURATION 2-3 months

    APPLICATION includes selecting 1-2 names of participating ISTA host professor(s)

    Requirements:

    • Must be a current student or recent graduate of a relevant BSc or MSc program

    • Must have completed at least the second year of their studies before the start date

    • Students who graduated within a year of the program start date are also eligible to apply

 
 

University of Tokyo School of Science - Tokyo

  • PAY one-time payment of 160,000JPY (~£805)

    • Free housing is provided for the duration of the stay (43 nights)

    DURATION 6 months between end of June and early-August

    Requirements:

    • Must have completed at least one full year in a BSc at the time of application

    • Must be able to present coverage of a health insurance plan that is effective during the internship program before arriving in Japan

    Responsibilities:

    Successful applicants will need to make an oral presentation and submit a report on the research project

 
 

Vienna BioCenter - Vienna

  • PAY €1400 after tax

    • Free student accommodation

    • Free travel pass providing unlimited use                                                                   of public transport in Vienna

    • Reimbursement of travel costs to and from Vienna

    Requirements:

    • Must have completed at least 2 years of a life science BSc/MSc/BA Hons related to one of the groups offering a position by 30th June of the year of the program

Weizmann School of Science - Rehovot

  • PAY 1,100 USD paid in two instalments

    • Up to 400 USD flight subsidy

    • Free accommodation for international students

    APPLICATION includes selecting 1-3 scientists from a list of participating labs

    • At least one letter of recommendation – this must be submitted directly by the recommender via a link sent after the applicant submits their application form

    • Previous lab experience is a plus

    DURATION mid-June to mid-August (~8 weeks)

    Requirements:

    • Must be a current BSc/MSc student or graduate

    • Students in integrated MSc programs may apply

    • Must present evidence of a serious interest in scientific research

    • Must have a GPA of 3.6/4.0 or the equivalent in grades

 
 

Francis Crick Institute - London

  • PAY equivalent to the London Living Wage to cover living costs during the program

    • If required, the Crick will also arrange and cover the cost of accommodation with a student accommodation provider in London

    DURATION 9-week, full-time Crick Summer Student Training Programme, with 5 days of leave to be agreed with the supervisor

    Requirements:

    • Must be registered at a UK university, and studying in the UK for an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline

    • Must be in the correct year of study at the time of applying, meaning:

    1. Second year of study for an undergraduate BSc or integrated MSc in England

    2. OR second year of study of a medical degree anywhere in the UK

    • Must be achieving a majority of 2:1 grade or higher for their undergraduate assessments and be on track to achieve a 2:1 degree or higher

    Further Requirements:

    Students must fulfil one of these criteria:

    1. Be of Black ethnicity

    2. Be a recipient of enhanced maintenance support from the relevant UK student finance agency to help with living costs during study

    3. Be studying at a university on the Crick’s Summer Student Training Programme Priority Institutions List (UCL is not on this list)
