UCL Nobel Prize Lecture

  • Sainsbury Wellcome Centre, 25 Howland St, W1T 4JG (map)

We are extremely proud to host Professor Edvard Moser, who will come to UCL from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. He shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2014 with his then-wife May-Britt Moser and their mentor John O'Keefe for their work identifying the cells that make up the brain's positioning system.

His work includes the discovery of grid cells in the entorhinal cortex, which provides the first clues to a neural mechanism for the metric of spatial mapping. Subsequent to this discovery the Mosers have identified additional space-representing cell types in the entorhinal cortex and they are beginning to unravel how the neural microcircuit is organized and how grid patterns are generated.

Professor Moser will talk to us about his current research interests and present the work done by his team.

*** We strongly recommend only to come to this talk if you have at least some understanding of the structure and function of hippocampus sufficient enough to fully comprehend Prof. Moser's lecture. We will only be able to acommodate around 80 people ***

This talk will not be recorded, as Prof. Moser will be presenting the latest findings done in his lab.
