Quantum Consciousness: how can quantum neural computation rescue free will?

Are we conscious because our brain is an orchestra, playing its own symphony, or because it is a machine, carefully computating each of its moves?

Most consider the brain to be a computer of simple neurons, ignoring intra-neuronal processes and failing to account for consciousness or AI. The Penrose-Hameroff theory explores brain processes extending inside the neurons, all the way to quantum computations in microtubules.

Prof. Stuart Hameroff is an anesthesiologist and director of the Center for Consciousness Studies at the University of Arizona. His studies on anesthetics which selectively erase consciousness, acting on intra-neuronal microtubules, led him to believe that they are the very thing orchestrating the symphony of our consciousness.
